Interior Design : My Signature Home Style

When it comes to style, fashion is not the only illustration of who we are. For me, my home is an extension of who I am. Being in that space and welcoming others into it should speak to the people my family and I are. And if I could sum up my interior style it would closely match that of my fashion choices; simple, minimalist and neutral in colour.

For my husband and I, both, natural light is incredibly important. And finding a home that provided as much natural light as possible was key in picking our new place. From waking up to the sunshine or basking in it over the summer months at home, natural light was the basis of all my home decor decisions.
We went for blank white walls, ceilings and doors for the most part. Having windows on both the back and front of our flat it was to capture and reflect as much sunlight as possible into our home. And with wooden floors throughout, the white and wood made for the perfect neutral canvas to start from.

Our living room includes wall panelling just above the sofa to slightly separate the living and dining portions of the open plan space. We considered large paintings above the sofa but felt it’ll take away from the minimalist, light feel of our living area. And for extra seating as well as little more texture and contrast, a low rattan chair was a no brainer. I fell in love with it the moment I saw it and semi-planned the seating arrangement around this statement chair. Complete with a few different textured textiles and tables laced into the living room, I couldn’t be happier with how it all came together.

STATEMENT VS. SIMPLICITY
“As for our dining area and surrounding furniture I wanted to keep it super simple, with just a few statement pieces like our beloved chandelier, and bar’s feature wall.”

THE HEART OF THE HOME
“Being Indian, cooking is a huge part of home life and I always grew up with the kitchen being the heart of the home. So my kitchen needed to be a space thats completely mine and exactly as I wished it. Sleek and strong, easy to clean with plenty of statement features!”

Upstairs lives our bedroom, en-suite and terrace. The latter of which is yet to design and furnish. But our bedroom includes our bed against a wooden panelled wall. Combining the earthy tones of our flooring for a statement backdrop, we opted for a super simple white bedroom with plenty of wooden textures and cotton fabrics to elevate it’s simplicity.

And finally, our en-suite / dressing area completes our little upstairs haven. A space that is entirely ours, combining form and function with plenty of personal home style along the way. It’s been a dream come true designing and dressing our home to make it truly our own! Signature style is not only about the clothes you wear but your life and style beyond your wardrobe. Its incredibly important, like with outfits, to invest in pieces for your home that aren’t only beautiful but functional too. In this case, to suit your lifestyle, cleaning capabilities, and clumsiness (a serious concern for our bright white sofa and bedding!). I have learnt after so much work and research that your space shouldn’t only look as you wish but be easily liveable and convenient to keep it as comfortable as possible.
